Day 1 of 30 · Make room for a different day · About 10 minutes
Make Coming Home Easier
Create one usable place to enter, put things down, and begin again.

“Let your doorway welcome you before the day asks anything more.”
The idea
A doorway is where one part of your day becomes another. If your first movement at home is stepping around bags, searching for keys, or balancing the post on a crowded shelf, your entrance is asking for work before you have settled. Today, give this small area a clear purpose: help you arrive. You do not need a grand hallway, a particular compass direction, or an ornament. A hook, an existing bowl, or one corner of a shelf can be enough.
Imagine arriving with shopping while your phone rings. A dependable place for your keys saves a decision at exactly that busy moment. Start with the item you search for most often, then check the route beyond it. The aim is useful arrangement, not a photograph of a perfect house. Leave mobility aids and essential equipment accessible, and agree shared changes with others. When you finish, rehearse a normal arrival. Your test is whether the arrangement works for your real hands, belongings, and habits.
An illustration only: keep the walking route open and put essentials within easy reach of the door.

Notice the arrival
Stand or sit near your usual entrance and picture arriving with your everyday belongings. Identify the one object or missing landing place that most often interrupts you.
Move three small things
Return three small misplaced objects to their existing homes. Keep the walking route and any mobility equipment accessible, and leave heavy or unsafe items for appropriate help.
Choose the landing place
Use an existing hook, shelf, bowl, or small surface for your most frequently misplaced essentials. Choose a position you can reach comfortably while entering.
Rehearse once
Try your usual arrival: enter, put down your essentials, and continue into the room. Adjust anything awkward, and tell anyone sharing the arrangement where things now belong.
